Vasectomy costs – how it works

If you would like to book your vasectomy please read, print and fill out the relevant information in the following forms.

  1. Patient Information and Instructions
  2. Registration Form
  3. Consent Form

Following this, please call us in Nambour on (07) 5441 1455 or in Gympie on (07) 582 8422 to book in for your vasectomy. Our staff can help you schedule your procedure and organise your  $100 booking deposit to be taken. You are required to give 7 days notice for the cancellation of your vasectomy appointment. If you cancel your appointment without the required 7 days notice, the booking fee of $100 is non-refundable.

Of course, if you prefer to discuss your procedure first, please book an initial consult. For the Sunshine Coast Clinic this can be done online (select Dr Matheesha Ranaweera as your practitioner) or over the phone through Nambour Clinic Family Medicine. Patients who wish to book in Gympie can book through The Gympie Clinic. It is usually helpful for men to come with their respective partner. This initial consult is bulk-billed.

The No-Scalpel Vasectomy costs $450 out of pocket. Our facility has Medicare easy claiming so you can get the medicare rebate straight back into your bank account.

Sperm counts and pathology costs

Each pathology provider has their own costs for analysing sperm counts after your vasectomy. This can vary from $40-50 out of pocket. The two main labs used are QML and Sullivan Niccolaides Pathology. Dr Ranaweera has no affiliation with either laboratory.

Vasectomy cost vs cost of raising another child

Having a vasectomy is a personal decision for a man and their respective partner. If you do not want any more children then it is likely that a number of different factors have made you come to this decision. Financial planning may be one of these factors. It is estimated that the average cost of raising a child in Australia is more than $400000 and climbing. Therefore, considering how effective, safe and affordable it is, a vasectomy may prove to be a very worthwhile investment.

Before booking, please answer a few quick questions

If you have answered Yes, please continue to book a vasectomy consultation.
If you have answered No, there is a small chance that a vasectomy is unnecessary for you. It is best to book a bulk-billed consultation with Dr Ranaweera first to discuss your options.

Why do we ask these questions?

If you have never caused a pregnancy, there is a chance that you are infertile. About 1% of men are Azoospermic or in other words, 1 in 100 men that do not have any sperm in their semen. They are able to ejaculate but no sperm is present in the semen – that is they are already “shooting blanks”. It may be wise get a fertility test prior to considering a vasectomy.
